Angela Frederick is Associate Professor of Sociology at The University of Texas at El Paso. Frederick is a medical sociologist whose work spans the areas of disability, environmental sociology, gender and family, and Hispanic/Latine college students’ paths into health fields. In her award-winning book, Disabled Power: A Storm, A Grid, and Embodied Harm in the Age of Disaster (NYU Press 2025), she examines the impact of Winter Storm Uri and the 2021 Texas power crisis on people with disabilities and chronic health conditions. Frederick earned her doctorate in sociology from The University of Texas at Austin in 2012.
